Hints and tips for Macintosh Integration into the SBS environment

What you will need for your Macintosh

Client software for Email:

Outlook 8.2 works for Mac System OS up to 8.1,
Outlook 2001 for Mac System 8.5 and above; both are free downloads.

OutlookWeb Access (OWA) is also possible.

Internet Access...

Following is a setup procedure I used. This will get them Internet access.
If you need them to log onto the SBS and share files and printers, you'll
need to install Services for Macintosh (SFM) on the SBS server. You would
need to install UAM also for authentication. See:

MACINTOSH SECURE- NAT INTERNET ACCESS...

1. TCP/IP. give each Mac a static IP address (define a range of IP
addresses for the Macs and then exclude them in the DHCP Address Pool).

Start | Programs | Administrative Tools | DHCP | <SBS.domain> |
Scope[x.x.x.x} SBS Scope | right click Address Pool | New Exclusion Range

Enter the range of Mac IP addresses you want excluded

2. Create Client Address Set (CAS) in ISA

SBS Console | Internet Security and Acceleration Server | Servers and Arrays
| <servername> | Policy Elements | Client Address Sets

Specify a Name for the Set (such as Mac Clients) and then add the range
of IP addresses for the Macs

3. Create a Mac Client "Internet Site and Content Rule"

SBS Console | Internet Security and Acceleration Server | Servers and Arrays
| <servername> | Access Policy | right click Site and Content Rules | New |
...Rule

a. Call the new rule: Mac Client Internet Site and Content Rule
b. Properties of new rule:
General tab: Enable
Destinations tab: All external destinations
Schedule tab: Always
Action tab: Allowed
Applies To tab: Client Address Sets specified below (locate your
CAS and add it to the list)
HTTP Content tab: All content groups

4. Create a Mac Client "Internet Access Protocol Rule"

SBS Console | Internet Security and Acceleration Server | Servers and Arrays
| <servername> | Access Policy | right click Protocol Rules | New | ...Rule
a. Call the new rule: Mac Client Internet Protocol Rule
b. Properties of new rule:
General tab: Enable
Action tab: Allow
Protocol tab: All IP trafiic
Schedule tab: Always
Applies To tab: Client Address Sets specified below (locate
your
CAS and add it to the list)

5. Mac Client Setup: (OS 7.5.x -8.1)

Apple Menu Items | Control Panels | TCP/IP

TCP/IP Configuration...
Connect via: Ethernet
Configure: Manually
IP Address: x.x.x.x (from Mac IP address range)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Router Address: <SBS IP address>
Name Server Address: <SBS IP address>
No need for logon to SBS or to configure your web browser for Proxy.
